Ashley Gaffney
Director, Community Health Improvement
Department: Community Health Improvement
Ashley joined SWACH after nine years of experience in the non-profit sector, most of which was in direct services with the houseless community. Originally from Southwest Florida, she moved to Southwest Washington in 2019 after traveling cross country stopping at as many National Parks as she could along the way.
Before joining SWACH, Ashley oversaw the Outreach and Syringe Services Program at Share. In this role, she led the expansion of the program and collaborated with community partners to increase access to healthcare services, including but not limited to HIV, Hepatitis C, and STD testing and treatment linkages, community drug checking, Flu and COVID vaccines, and access to Medicaid enrollment, to underserved communities.
Ashley graduated from Florida State University with a master's degree in social work and a concentration in social leadership. While living in Florida’s capital city, Ashley volunteered with Tallahassee Planned Parenthood Leadership Action Team, a community organizing group that educates and advocates for reproductive health and justice, and 2-1-1 Big Bend where she provided crisis counseling and information and referral services for two hotlines: Helpline 2-1-1 and The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline now known as 988 Lifeline.
In her free time, Ashley plays roller derby and skates with the Rose City Rollers All-Star Travel Team and the High Rollers Home Team. When she is not skating, she spends her time outdoors exploring the Pacific Northwest with her partner and their dog. Some activities that she enjoys are hiking, camping, birdwatching, mushroom hunting, and gardening. She also likes to read, see live music, and play recreational volleyball on a co-ed team.
