SWACH Opioid Event Recaps
SWACH recently hosted two successful training events as part of the regional opioid crisis response.
SWACH is working with clinical partners in Clark, Klickitat and Skamania Counties to increase capacity to treat opioid use disorder, while also driving an important shift in how our healthcare system thinks about opioid dependency.
Our August Medication Assisted Therapy training provided a no-cost opportunity for doctors to to become waivered to prescribe Buprenorphine, an evidence-based therapy for opioid use disorder. We were thrilled to hit capacity on the event! As participants complete the next steps in waiver process, this could increase the number of MAT-waivered professionals in our region by nearly 40%! Thanks to all who attended, as well as to our trainer, Dr. Melinda Landchild.
In fact, the training was so popular that we’re offering another MAT training opportunity on October 13, 2018. RSVP here!
At an early September dinner event, Dr. John Hart of PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center provided an engaging presentation on uses of Suboxone in a practical clinical setting. Attendees included clinicians from all three counties in SWACH’s region. Dr. Hart is a true champion for the SWACH goal to support a culture shift to understand and treat opioid use disorder as a chronic brain disease. Attendees came away with a greater understanding of the science and treatment of opioid use disorder.
We’re pleased to see the region moving towards an aligned response to the epidemic. And we’re grateful to our partners and their organizations’ leaders for supporting their clinicians in their ongoing efforts to address this crisis.
